Estimate tile boxes for floors and walls from surface size, tile size, and either tiles per box or box coverage. The calculator uses deterministic pattern-based waste defaults when you leave waste blank, then rounds up to whole tiles and whole boxes.

Pattern-based default waste is straight 10%, brick 10%, diagonal 15%, and herringbone 20% when the waste field is left blank.

Should I use tiles per box or box coverage?
Use either one. Box coverage is usually the most direct shopping input because it matches the label on many retail boxes.
Why does the calculator round up twice?
It first rounds up tile quantity to avoid false fractions of a tile, then rounds up purchase boxes because stores sell whole boxes.
