Skirting / Baseboard / Trim Calculator

Estimate trim lengths from room size, stock length, room count, and waste allowance. Optional door deductions, nail spacing, and price inputs add practical purchase guidance for skirting, baseboard, architrave, and trim projects.

Trim Inputs

Optional deductions, fasteners, and price fields
This calculator works best for rectangular rooms. Window trim, mitre-cut reuse, and offcut optimisation should be checked separately before cutting stock lengths.
The main answer rounds the linear run with waste up to whole sold stock lengths. Optional nail spacing adds a simple fastener estimate only when you enter it.

Perimeter, openings, stock lengths, and waste

Trim begins as a linear measurement. The calculator takes rectangular room perimeter, subtracts any opening deduction you enter, applies waste, and divides by the stock length you intend to buy. The last step is why a near-complete extra board can still be necessary.

Trim calculation

(room perimeter × room count − opening deductions) × (1 + waste) ÷ stock length

The final number rounds up to whole stock lengths.

What this estimate does not optimise

This calculator estimates total stock length and whole-piece quantity. It does not create a cut-optimisation plan for individual wall sections, mitres, returns, or offcuts. Make that cutting plan after final measuring.

Measure after finish layers are known

Flooring, wall finishes, and out-of-square corners can affect the final cut. Group rooms by profile and stock length, then use a higher allowance where the detail has many mitres or matched joins.
